A Glacier Experience - Foreword

Last June, I blogged about a trip to the Smokey Mountains that Kathy and I went with Ronnie and Theresa. We had a pretty good time on that trip, for a couple reasons.  First, it was a trip with minimal expectations, and secondly, it was a beautiful area.  This year we decided to try the same type of trip, but go in a different direction.   Theresa suggested doing a Lake Superior ride.  I suggested if we were to do that, with a little more driving we could hit Niagara Falls.  We continued to research things to do and routes to take throughout the off-season.  I mentioned going to the Montana area and the four of us decided that might be the best area to travel this year.

Just like last year, Theresa and Ronnie rode an illusion blue 2002 Honda Goldwing. Kathy and I rode a black and orange 2007 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Screamin Eagle. Both were equipped with intercoms and CB’s for internal and external communication.

We had some key areas of interest to visit planned for this trip, but nothing was set until we started riding on Saturday, June 23, 2012.  The same rule as last year, which was to minimize travel on interstate highways was still upheld as well. On Friday, June 22, Ronnie came over and we discussed a potential route. We had discussed several routes in the past few weeks, but none quite as defining as this one.  Some of the discussion included the fires that were going on in Colorado.  At the time, there was one fire near Fort Collins Colorado, which was pretty near Estes Park – a destination we were considering.  We agreed to a general direction for the first day and parted for the evening.
